In 1962 I left the boarding school at Iringa in Tanzania and moved, together with my brother, to a boarding school in Sussex in the UK.

I took my O Levels at this school and then enrolled at a Further Education College at Chichester where I completed an Ordinary National Diploma in Engineering.

There aren't many photos from this period but here are few which give an idea of life at school and college.

This is the main building of the boarding school in Sussex. It was a boys school and, like my brother and I, most of the other boy's parents lived abroad.

A typical scene during a summer afternoon at school. When we weren't in class or doing homework or playing sports there was not much to do - especially on Sunday.

This is one of the teachers who lived at the school. My brother is no doubt spinning him some story.

After completing my O Levels I moved to a flat near to the College in Chichester. I shared the flat with another boy from school who had also enrolled at the college.

This is me and my Hillman Minx and my flatmate. I can't remember what was going on!

When I finished my course at College I enrolled on an Engineering Degree course at Brighton College of Technology.
